Break-Up is constructed from two scenes concerning the male protagonist’s search for his fiancé, and his futile pursuit of her femme fatale alien clone. The material aspects of the imperfect digital copy, digital artifacts manifesting due to poor compression/transmission, cause the film image to constantly "break-up" and then recompose. When characters are active, their cinematic image dissolve into pixels, deconstructing theories of identification and agency in classic narrative film.
